What should we bring?
It is best to come in layered clothing. The temperature ranges from 40 to 70 degrees with varied and sudden weather changes. It is important to bring rain gear to include a hat, gloves, and waterproof walking boots. Overnight guests may want to bring house shoes or slippers for inside the lodge. Don’t forget your camera and sunglasses.
IMPORTANT: Please bring any medications you may need!

What Camera Gear should I have?
The most important thing to remember is that once you are here, there is no way to obtain any additional gear. So things like extra memory cards, batteries, and perhaps a backup camera are all things you need to consider. Most guest utilize larger telephoto lenses at least 300mm or greater (plus teleconverters) for much of their photography. The area is very scenic and a medium focal length and a wide angle would be great to have. We also highly recommend that you have rain gear for your equipment. You may want to opt for a monopod instead of a tripod, as they will prove easier to get in and out of the vehicle as well as faster to setup for the shot.

Is there a weight and luggage limit when flying in a chartered plane?
Yes, smaller charters allow an average weight of 180 lbs per person and approximately 50 lbs. of luggage. Please contact us with additional gear that exceeds these weight limits. It is best to bring a duffle bag instead of a hard suitcase, which works best in the small compartments of a chartered plane. We do offer laundry service mid week.

Can we choose what destination to depart from to fly into  Silver Salmon Creek?
We have chartered flights coming from Anchorage or Soldotna on a regular basis.  We would be happy to help arrange your chartered flights for you.

What kind of insects are there and how concerned should we be?
We have mosquitoes, no-see-ums, white sox, gnats and horse flies.  We encourage guests to bring insect repellent and / or head nets.

Do cell phones work at the lodge?
Cell phone service is intermittent. Verizon or AT&T seem to get better service but still intermittent.

Do you have Internet services available for guests?
We do have wireless Internet service via satellite.  Please feel free to bring your own laptop. While visiting the lodge we kindly ask visitors to avoid using the Satellite Internet connection for downloading, streaming video, music, online radio, and file sharing.  This helps to avoid bandwidth overloading.  We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

We have special dietary needs?
Due to the vast dietary restrictions with many of our guests, it has become difficult to prepare separate meals. Please know that we try to be accommodating and make well-balanced meals.

Do you have stairs in the lodge?
Yes, we have stairs going up to the front porch and stairs in the main lodge, going up to the kitchen and dining area, ladder style stairs to the Eagle’s Nest room, and outdoor stairs to the Seaside Suite and Mountain View Suite.

We have some disabilities and can’t walk very much?
When your charter plane arrives on the beach, we will greet you with an ATV and trailer behind, which has comfortable seats. We escort our guests with an ATV for bear viewing, fishing and other activities unless guests choose to walk or hike instead. Please note: Activities do require walking on uneven terrain while carrying your backpack, camera or fishing gear. Terrain includes mud, tall grass, water, or a combination of each.

What happens if we are weathered in?
When weather moves in and the conditions are not flyable on your scheduled departure date and time, we would appreciate guests paying an additional $150.00 per person, per day to cover food costs.

Will we be with a guide during our stay at the lodge?
Yes, we request our guests to be with a guide since you are in bear country and they know where to go and what to do for bear viewing and our other activities. They are knowledgeable with the flora and fauna, wildlife and the history of the area. They are there for your guidance, protection and to make your trip a fun and memorable experience.

Are there additional costs that may be incurred while at the lodge?
Our package prices are inclusive to include lodging (for overnight guests), chartered flight, guided services, activities and delicious meals. Note: Park fee, taxes and gratuities are not included. For those fishing, there will be an extra fee for tackle and fish boxes. Please refer to our “Fishing” section for additional information. We may arrange a Halibut Charter from Silver Salmon Creek for an additional cost.

Can I purchase souvenirs at your remote, wilderness lodge?
Yes, enjoy shopping for those speciality items made by local Alaskans to those one-of-a-kind gifts only available at the homestead.

What about alcoholic beverages at the lodge?
We encourage our guests to bring whatever alcoholic beverages they would like.
